(19 March 2016 - Hong Kong) New World China Land Limited (“NWCL” or “the Group”; Hong Kong Stock Code: 00917), together with over 40 flagship properties spanning 18 cities in Mainland China, has fully supported the Earth Hour Campaign organised by World Wide Fund (“WWF”) for eight consecutive years. NWCL joined hands with over 100 million people around the world to turn off non-essential lights for one hour at 8:30pm on 19 March 2016, demonstrating its unwavering commitment to environmental protection.?
Apart from turning off illumination and landscape lighting including neon lights of its commercial property buildings for one hour during the campaign, NWCL encouraged its employees, members of NWCL Volunteer Team and hundreds of thousands of property owners and tenants to support and participate in the event. On 19 March 2016, NWCL’s properties including well-known landmarks such as Beijing New World Centre, Shanghai Hong Kong New World Tower, Wuhan New World Centre, Dalian New World Tower, and large-scale residential projects such as Shenyang New World Garden, Guangzhou Central Park-view and Changsha La Ville New World joined the campaign. In addition, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong K11 Art Mall etc. which are under the management of New World Group participated in the campaign.?
The theme of the Earth Hour 2016 in Mainland China is “Consume Less, Enjoy More”. It encourages every individual to reduce carbon footprint by altering ways of clothing consumption, diet, shelter, transportation and entertainment while living a sustainable lifestyle and achieving sustainable consumption to combat climate change. To show its support to the Earth Hour 2016, NWCL organised a series of activities such as concert featuring music on environmental protection, eco-friendly pencil case workshop and low carbon walk in its various communities. In addition, NWCL shared knowledge of sustainable living with property owners through WeChat platform while members of New World Volunteer Team promoted “Consume Less, Enjoy More” in their own communities and called for joint action to tackle climate change.?
NWCL has long been showing its concern to global climate, environment and the sustainable development of society. With its strong initiative to promote green building design and innovation, NWCL has formulated the NWCL Green Building Design Guidelines, with 12 property projects attaining the LEED Gold Certification or Pre-certification. NWCL also introduces the concept of sustainable development to the community through joining hands with international charitable organisations to carry out charitable programmes on environmental protection, community libraries and farmhouses rebuild in poverty areas. In the meantime, it encourages the public to concern about climatic change and to live a green and low carbon lifestyle.?
Initiated by WWF in Australia in 2007, the Earth Hour encourages the public, government and corporations to show their concerns to climate change by turning off non-essential lights and other utilisation equipments for one hour from 8:30pm to 9:30pm on the last Saturday of March every year. It is now the world’s largest environmental protection campaign in terms of participation scale, with the participation of 7,000 cities in more than 162 countries and regions.?
